ABOUT US
Who We Are
The mission of the Friends of the Boy in Blue Civil War Veterans Memorial is to honor and preserve the Blue Earth County Civil War Veterans Memorial, located in Mankato’s historic Lincoln Park. To achieve that end, the organization is dedicated to encouraging and promoting both an awareness and appreciation for the preservation of other historically significant properties, cemeteries and monuments from this decisive period [Civil War era] in our nation’s history. By doing so, Friends of the Boy in Blue are able to gain a more complete and thorough understanding of the men and women, both civilian and military, that “gave their last, full measure of devotion,” during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
Formerly operating as the Boy in Blue Memorial Project Committee made up of volunteers dedicated to rebuilding the Boy in Blue statue and fountain that once stood in Lincoln Park. The goal was to raise funds and complete the project during the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War. Our goal was realized when the memorial was dedicated on May 30, 2015.
In 2019, the committee reorganized becoming the Friends of the Boy in Blue Civil War Veterans Memorial and achieving 501(c) (3) nonprofit status.
