CIVIL WAR MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS

FROM BLUE EARTH COUNTY, MN

From Blue Earth County, Minnesota, these brave men of Company H, 2nd Minnesota Infantry, earned the Medal of Honor for their heroism at Nolensville, Tennessee, on February 15, 1863. In what later became known as the “Corn Crib Party,” this detachment of 16 courageously defended a wagon train against 125 attacking cavalry, repelling the assault and saving the vital supplies. Due to government oversight, it wasn’t until 1897 that their bravery was formally recognized with the Congressional Medal of Honor.
