Voices From the Mountain
2027 marks the centennial of Mount Rushmore's inception. More than art on a colossal scale, Mount Rushmore represents a remarkable chapter in American history. "Voices from the Mountain," tells the dramatic story of the people who worked to bring the vision of Mount Rushmore to reality, including Gutzon Borglum, Doane Robinson, Peter Norbeck, William Williamson, Lincoln Borglum, and the numerous workers, who blasted it out of the solid granite of the Black Hills of South Dakota.
This presentation by Bryce Stenzel, on the planning and construction of Mount Rushmore; also reflects the words of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. The program explores the ideals represented by each president on the memorial, and what those ideals continue to mean today.
"Voices of the Mountain," is based on the title of Stenzel's latest book of the same title, published in 2026. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the annual Lincoln Lecture. The lecture is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated, with proceeds going to the Friends of the Boy in Blue Civil War Headstone Project.
CIVIL WAR MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS
FROM BLUE EARTH COUNTY, MN
These brave men from Blue Earth County of Company H, 2nd Minnesota Infantry, earned the Medal of Honor for their heroism at Nolensville, Tennessee, on February 15, 1863. In what later became known as the “Corn Crib Party,” this detachment of 16 courageously defended a wagon train against 125 attacking cavalry, repelling the assault and saving the vital supplies. Due to government oversight, it wasn’t until 1897 that their bravery was formally recognized with the Congressional Medal of Honor.
